There is a passage in My Early Life where Winston Churchill challenges the youth of the world to not be content with the way things are, not to fear mistakes, and to be fierce in your actions. With this cover of a MFS favorite by M83, it is clear The Knocks have taken his advice to heart.
M83’s “Midnight City” was one of 2011’s biggest songs; a stirring synth-laden journey through a vibrant, breathing cityscape. The Knocks show a brilliant amount of moxie putting their own dance spin on a song widely considered last year’s best. Kudos must be given to a duo with the courage to attempt such a bold undertaking and the talent to make it work. While The Knocks are busy doing what they do best, creating a track to get your ass moving, newcomer Mandy Lee provides the early leader for vocal performance of the year (the synths as vocals…. genius).
I know this is the third song I have brought you guys from The Knocks, but that is how strongly I believe in them. Come see them with me at U St. Music Hall on March 6th and see why.
