It seems like every year around this time, I get an itch for more Justin Vernon (yes, I know he was on Yeezus, shut up). And every year, it seems like he’s somehow in, near, or associated with another supergroup. Luckily for us, this one seems to be this year’s selected flavor – Volcano Choir, a group originally formed in 2009 with Collections of Colonies of Bees. Their new album, Repave, comes this September with “Byegone” as the first officially released song. While Justin avoids his Bon Iver-esque style for a much more straightforward sound, the rest of the band handles the slowly building beat. Once it hits about halfway in? Full-on barnstormer mode, all the instruments coming out and Justin wailing over them before slowly drifting away.
Also: Justin Vernon says “sexing.”
