The second coming of classic country artists like Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash might just be The White Buffalo, hailing from… Los Angeles? With this track off his last EP, Prepare For Black & Blue, he certainly seems to prove that to be true. Strumming guitars, whiskey-drenched growls, and raw emotions laid bare bring classic country music into modern times. The calamitous conclusion to the song, with the singer yelling over hard guitar chords, makes you want to start a bar fight – and that’s pretty much exactly the point. It’s no wonder his music has been used extensively to soundtrack Sons Of Anarchy, the FX show about a motorcycle gang and their clashes with skinheads, drug dealers, and other unsavory characters.
Having toured extensively since his EP release, including performing at this past year’s Bonnaroo festival, The White Buffalo is currently finishing up his full-length album Once Upon A Time In The West (scheduled for release later this month) and working his way around the west coast on tour (after just playing a few east coast dates). Keep up with him via his Facebook to see if he ever makes it out to DC.
