Cursive – The Sun and Moon "Cursive – The Sun and Moon"

It’s been a long three years since Cursive’s last group effort, Mama I’m Swollen, came out. Don’t mistake this for any of the group members taken a break – in that time, Tim Kasher’s released an album and an EP (which, I may note, I named my best EP of 2011), Matt Maginn played on Bright Eyes’ latest The People’s Key, and Cully Symington plays drums for Okkervil River (whose latest album I Am Very Far also made my list for best albums of last year). With that said, man, it sure is nice to have the band back together. Their earlier, more “punk” efforts are toned down a bit here to make way for the more indie rock influenced sounds of their current projects, but it doesn’t take away the bite of Tim Kasher’s lyrics or the intensity of the drums and guitar.

Cursive’s new album, I Am Gemini, will be released this February, and they’ll be performing at Black Cat on April 6. For updates on the band, check out their website, Facebook, and Twitter.
